RESUMO

The toxicity of 14 biocides commonly used in circulating cooling water systems were evaluated. Results showed that biocide exposure can induce complex damage/repair pathways, including DNA, oxidative, protein, general, and membrane stress. All damages enhanced with increasing concentrations. Among them, MTC exhibited toxicity at concentrations as low as 1.00 × 10-17 mg/L, and TELItotal reached 1.60. We derived molecular toxicity endpoints based on dose-response curves to compare the normalized toxicity of biocides. Total-TELI1.5 exhibited that THPS, MTC, and DBNPA have the lowest toxic exposure concentrations, which are 2.180 × 10-27, 1.015 × 10-14, and 3.523 × 10-6 mg/L. TBTC, MTC, and 2,4-DCP had the highest Total-TELImax values, which are 861.70, 526.30, and 248.30. Moreover, there was a high correlation (R2 =0.43-0.97) between biocides' molecular structure and toxicity. And, biocide exposure combinations were found to increase toxicity pathways and enhance toxic effects, with a similar toxicity mechanism observed as in single-component exposure.

RESUMO

It is important to study the stress effects and mechanisms of haloacetamide (HAcAm) disinfection byproducts to reveal their health hazards. In this context, toxicological g was applied to evaluate the effects of four HAcAms, revealing the status of gene expression on Escherichia coli in different stress response types (oxidative, protein, membrane, general, DNA). This study revealed that the main toxic action modes of these HAcAms were general and membrane stresses by high-resolution, real-time gene expression profiling combined with clustering analysis. The results of time-gene evaluation showed that the presence of chloroacetamide (CAcAm) and bromoacetamide (BAcAm) generated more reactive oxygen species, thus activating oxidative stress. Trichloroacetamide (tCAcAm) induced altered expression of glutathione marker genes and membrane stress-related genes, and iodoacetamide (IAcAm) caused severe DNA damage by damaging DNA strands and individual nucleotides mainly through damage to nucleic acids and bases. Furthermore, quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modelling results indicated that the biological activities of HAcAms were related to their quantum chemical and topological properties.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The paper version of the training assessment was time-consuming and labor-consuming. It is an inevitable trend to change the appraisal method utilizing information technology. This study aimed to realize convenient and rapid management of the whole process of clinical nursing operation technology through information-based training and assessment platform. METHODS: Combined with the operation mode of clinical nursing operation skills and set the basic functions of the information platform of clinical nursing operation training and assessment, the information-based training and evaluation platform for clinical nursing operation skills was established. The platform was officially operated in a tertiary level A general hospital in Shandong Province in 2018. RESULTS: The information-based training and assessment platform is composed of Management Center (Computer Terminal) and a client terminal (APP terminal). The computer terminal contains 11 modules, and the APP terminal contains 8 modules. By December 2020, a total of 12,619 nurses had completed the training in nursing operation skills, and a total of 11,986 nurses had completed the examination. The examination results of nursing operation skills of the same nurses in 2018 were significantly higher than those in 2017(P < 0.05), and the error rate was significantly lower (P < 0.05). From 2016 to 2020, the scores of nasal feeding, CPR, and respiratory airbag of N1 level nurses significantly increased after using the information-based training and Assessment Platform (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Based on the information terminal training assessment can realize the management of the whole process of clinical nursing operation technology training and assessment, which is better than the traditional method, and is a very practical and convenient clinical training and assessment method.

RESUMO

An atom-economic N-to-C-directed solid-phase peptide synthesis is reported that uses benzyl (Bn) or (benzhydryl-carbamoyl)-methyl (BcM) esters of amino acids as the building blocks, which facilitate efficient hydrazinolysis, convenient conversion to acyl azide, and robust amidation with the next amino acid ester. This method is free of coupling reagents and free of protection on the side-chain OH, CO2H, CONH2, etc., therefore exhibiting a significantly improved atom economy compared to those of BOC- or Fmoc-based C-to-N-directed approaches.

RESUMO

Region-specific Research and Development (R&D) of microalga-derived product systems are crucial if "biotech's green gold" is to be explored in a rational and economically viable way. Coastal zones, particularly the locations around the equator, are typically considered to be optimum cultivation sites due to stable annual temperature, light, and ready availability of seawater. However, a 'cradle-to-grave' assessment of the development of microalgal biotechnology in these areas, not only under the laboratory conditions, but also in the fields has not yet been demonstrated. In this study, to evaluate the viability of microalga-derived multi-product technology, we showed the development of microalgal biotechnology in coastal zones for aquaculture and food. By creating and screening a (sub)tropical microalgal collection, a Chlorella strain MEM25 with a robust growth in a wide range of salinities, temperatures, and light intensities was identified. Evaluation of the economic viability and performance of different scale cultivation system designs (500 L and 5000 L closed photobioreactors and 60,000 L open race ponds, ORPs) at coastal zones under geographically specific conditions showed the stable and robust characteristics of MEM25 across different production system designs and various spatial and temporal scales. It produces high amounts of proteins and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in various conditions. Feeding experiments reveal the nutritional merits of MEM25 as food additives where PUFAs and essential amino acids are enriched and the algal diet improves consumers' growth. Economic evaluation highlights an appreciable profitability of MEM25 production as human or animal food using ORP systems. Therefore, despite the pros and cons, sound opportunities exist for the development of market-ready multiple-product systems by employing region-specific R&D strategies for microalgal biotechnology.
